Spend ten minutes on car Twitter and you'll see the same fight: EV bros claiming a Plaid will demolish anything with pistons, ICE loyalists pointing at the Bugatti's top end. The truth is more interesting than either side admits.
The launch — EV territory
Off the line, electric drivetrains are unbeatable. No clutch, no shift, no traction loss waiting to happen. A Tesla Plaid runs 9.2-second quarters. A Rimac Nevera hits 8.6. These are drag-prepped Hellcat numbers from a four-door sedan.
The trap speed — ICE strikes back
But trap speed (the speed at the end of the quarter mile) tells the other half of the story. The Plaid traps around 152 mph. The Bugatti Chiron traps 167+. Why? EVs hit a software speed limit and run out of motor RPM. Combustion cars keep pulling.
The verdict
For 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile, EVs win. For 1/2 mile and beyond, well-engineered ICE hypercars catch up and pass. Pit them yourself.
